this is a really weird problem, I've never seen something like this. I have opened up the laptop. Loctite is super-glue. Nothing helped to start the laptop normally. When powering up, it whirs, the fan starts and a few seconds later ( between 3 & 10) it shuts down never reaching the onscreen COMPAQ logo.

i just can't find what you mean by "reseating the video card" i can't find a card it's just the motherboard, help is greatly appreciated. about 2-3 seconds of the LED being on (while still with black screen) the laptop powers off. I've put $85 in it already (with the new hard drive) and need to know where to stop. If you can't cut the fan off then cut a new screwdriver slot into the screw and take the fan off.
If you experience the same issue even with the battery removed, most likely it's not your problem and something else is going on. Jennifer April 12, 2007 | I have a dell inspiron 700m, last night i dropped it on the side that the dvd/cd drive is on. Then when its about to load OS, the external monitor goes blank and it starts working on the laptop screen. You can also can test the HDD with Hitachi drive fitness test, if the test passes successfully, I would assume that the system board and the HDD are fine. I thought it might be a overheating problem, but this is strange as I am using external cooling system for notebook, yet I cleaned up heatsinks.
