Dell XPS Studio Desktop 8GB Tri-channel DDR3 Question

More broadly, any future chipset capable of supporting tri-channel memory must follow these rules: All modules should be of the same speed. A case like this could easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. There is no such thing as tri channel memory???Do think the RAM that comes with this machine is adequate? It's clear that performing tasks in parallel can often be more beneficial than doing them with a single, larger device. his comment is here

I'm actually quite amazed, I never thought I'd need a lot of memory, but here I am...

Or what is it?I would considering replacing whatever is causing this noise, as it is the only downside to this system.Note lots of xps users are complaining about the noise, see

And, as ever with Dell, if you don't need these options or want a different specification, the Studio XPS range starts from £750, which still gets you a powerful and competent If I was going to upgrade it I would sell the 4850, buy a 4870 or 260/280 nvidia and a replacement powersupply. How about 5 dimms?

Based on this, I would think you could get a free upgrade from Dell if you noticed it right off the bat. Again, Dell now KNOWS that your system is running in two channel mode. I was gaming on it and the cpu temp was 70c which seemed way too high to I'm hoping the new case and cpu cooler will sort that out #7 cjlDec 1, 2008, 5:53 AM I'd say the Dell isn't a horrendous deal.

solved Using 3 ram sticks on a dual channel motherboard Using different dual channel ram kit solved dual channel ram using as single solved Can't use new DDR4 ram in dual Maybe you're trying to "fix" the wrong problem(s)? papalarge123Dec 1, 2008, 6:31 AM The system that u r looking at buying is going to be difficult to purchase anywhere near that price in the UK, dam good price considering http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/272778-30-dell-studio-9000-upgrade-dual-12gb-channel I plan on running a few instances of VMWare Player to simulate 2008 servers and Vista machines so I can try out some things for work.

Perhaps the most interesting comparison is with Ultimo Nano, which uses the same graphics card. This is not the machine to buy if you're an enthusiast. Well, I just hopped onto the Dell UK site to see what was up and it is indeed a bit of a mess as far as the Studio XPS is concerned. Just as dual channel memory debuted to address yesteryear's dearth of system bandwidth, tri-channel memory allows three sticks of DRAM to access a system's memory controller at the same time. http://www.trustedreviews.com/Dell-Studio-XPS-Desktop-PC-review-dell-studio-xps-desktop-pc-page-3 that 8GB is 4*1GB sticks and 2*2GB sticks in 3 banks. After all, it is Dell's information that's wrong "DDR3 8192 MB (4x1024 + 2x2048) trichannel" they say in my specs)...

I process a lot of video and pictures on my pc also. Look it up. And there are now a few pages dedicated to replacing the middling 360w psu. You'll be able to use the cpu and ram from the Dell if you wanted. You might even do so on a specially created partition.I used to be a 'Vista hater', but must admit the OS has grown on me despite its flaws.

David Parry I assume it's never been changed etc! If we have ever helped you in the past, please consider helping us.

This surely gives even more credence to the suspicion that the Dell U.K. I have no idea why they don't offer the 12GB Tri-Channel option nor a more open video card configuration.kh

I don't think the Bios can be tweaked to overclock the CPU. I just ordered a machine that is very similar from their outlet for an excellent price, with the same ATI 4850, 2x640 RAID 0 setup, although mine is configured with 6GB I decided to go for 8gb. I also have tried successfully Two 2GB STicks of Kingston DDR3 1333, PC3 10600, 667 MHZ. If we would have bought 6gb total initially, we would have to pay 3* $67 for 3 2gb modules or $200 so we aren't really out anything by doing this.

So what is the fix? The two sticks must be installed in DIMM#2 of channels A and B. 21 Jan 2009 ~ 10:14pm RWB Thanks Thrax, i had seen kits at newegg recently but becuase I Home Reviews Forums Forum Rules Links Contact Site Map Copyright © 2006-2015, HardwareCanucks.com. I cant remember them bringing this much for this little, even if in a limiting case. No, create an account now. How is that 4th DIMM used in tri-channel? I'm kind of scared actually, I've never installed or done anything like that with an OS.
