I just removed the SO-DIMM and gently cleaned them with a pencil eraser. I dock it 5x a week at work and then at home I have a couple of docks to mate it to. cheaper to buy a new computer,dell seems to be using lots of parts from china so you might want to stay away,i would open it and see if theres any loose I have unplugged the hard drive from the computer and rebuted the computer using Knopix CD OS, and it worked fine. There are tons of computer techs out there who will charge you the full price even for something like this. The failed electronic component has to be replaced. (How to test Laptop System Power).

Nothing new. Unplug AC adapter, take out laptop battery and hold power button for 30 seconds, the static charge will dissipate. Those come off real easy on the 8600s.

It would go to the Dell screen on startup,then to a blank screen with nothing but a blinking cursor in the topleft hand corner. I didn't even charge her anything because it was such a simple fix.
