I'm facing a similar issue. 1. i put some isolating tape on the top part so the foil will never touch again... Here are some troubleshooting tips. once logged on run command prompt with administrative properties then type in 'sfc /scannow' this will hoefully find anything else which is currupt.

I thought it might be a overheating problem, but this is strange as I am using external cooling system for notebook, yet I cleaned up heatsinks. I run a business from home and all my important info is on it. The Windows XP logo is seen as it boots up, but then the video shuts off. When I hold down F12 it will show a Boot Menu. "+Hard Drive" is at the top.
I took everything appart, all I had was the motherboard and batter and hard drive hooked up and still it does the same thing. I do appreciate your help!
